Education, research and development
As a Māori feminist academic, I specialised in Māori education, research and development for nearly thirty years. I worked at Massey and Victoria universities, Christchurch College of Education, the Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust and Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi.

Senior management across sectors
My second career has been in senior management and governance across the NGO, iwi and public sectors: Te Puni Kōkiri, the Families Commission, Barnardos NZ, ACC, the Office of the Children’s Commissioner and Te Ara Ahunga Ora Retirement Commission..GOVERNANCE
Service and nation building
I have served in governance roles as ministerial nominations since the 1980s, including as the Minister of Education’s nominee on Te Mana Whakahaere (Council) of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa from 2013–2017.
